mindful movement

There’s 168 hours in every week. Your exercise program only covers a few of them.

When most people think of movement, they think of exercise; time spent pounding the pavement or grinding away in the gym. Those things certainly qualify as movement, but it’s so much more than that. Movement is how we experience and adapt to the natural world. The quality and quantity of our movement constantly shapes us, determining our literal form and our function.

Unfortunately, we live in a culture that rewards sedentarism and is incredibly adept at keeping us stationary. Look no further than the standing desk; as we’ve learned more about the health risks of sitting for long hours, we’ve ironically looked for ways to keep people at their desks for more time, not less.

As our daily movement has continued to decline, we’ve turned to exercise for physical health; a modern approach that reduces a full week’s worth of movement into a few workouts while ignoring the elephant in the room; our bodies need movement like they need food; and no amount of exercise (or multi-vitamins) can fully address that basic need. That’s what movement coaching is all about.
